Why Are People Investing in Gold & Silver Right Now?

For thousands of years, gold and silver have been recognised as prize assets to own. This notion has not changed, even in this modern era, as we see more and more new investors flocking to precious metals every day.

In episode 2 of the Atkinsons Bullion & Coins podcast, Paul Atkinson looks at the current and historical prices of precious metals, and discusses in depth some of the reasons why investors are choosing to buy physical gold and silver bullion right now as well as the direction they may go.

Hi Patrick,

Thank you for your comments. Glad to hear you enjoyed the podcast!

We briefly discussed the possible rise in value over the spot price of some gold and silver coins in our first podcast (Coins or Bars: Which is Best?), and I'm sure it will be mentioned again during future episodes. It is most certainly a topic that is of interest with many of our clients.

I thought the commentary about the value & reasoning for keeping precious was very good & also the reason for fluctuations in the prices of precious metals. However I thought that there would have also been comments on how the value of gold in different forms performs. I collect the 1oz Queens Beasts which has just finished it's run of 10 different coins. The very first coins which are now no longer produced have increased in value by an astonishing amount. The Lion of England & The Red Dragon of Wales coins are now seling for over £2000 each. That far & away exceeds the increase in the gold price, & must be due to the rarirty of the coin & the fact that it is no longer minted. Most of the other coins have also increased by more that the gold price. Is there any reason why you did not mention that? I have only the bullion version, the proof version would be considerably more, although more expensive at initial purchase also.

Inflation is easy to explain, Buffet said in all, its a hidden tax you can not see, myself I always average inflation at %5 a year, not the lying government cpi?

Loved the Podcast Paul as you know i am an ardent supporter of sound money ! we are living in tough times where paper currencies will eventually collapse and a new system will come into being. The metals will help you transfer from one paradigm to another without losing purchasing power.
Keep up the good work.
