The Royal Mint Una and the Lion Stamped Bars

The Royal Mint Una and the Lion Stamped Bars is inspired by characters from Edmund Spenser’s epic poem ‘The Faerie Queene’. In the poem, Una is the personification of the church who uses her beauty and honest nature to tame a lion which then travels with her as a guardian.

The Royal Mint's association with Una and the Lion began in 1839, when the Una and the Lion Gold £5 Coin was released. Incredibly rare, the coin is considered to be one of the most beautiful coins ever made.
