Cancellations & Returns

At Atkinsons, we’re committed to offering fair, transparent service to all our customers. Because our products are tied to the live precious metals market, our returns and cancellations policy is designed to protect genuine buyers and ensure stock remains available.

Why We Charge a Cancellation Fee

We operate in a live market where prices change constantly, sometimes within seconds. As such, cancellations come with real risks to our stock levels and pricing. To prevent speculative buying or attempts to manipulate the market, we apply a small cancellation fee.

  • If you choose to cancel an order after it's been placed, a fee of 2.5% of the order value will apply.
  • If the metal price has moved significantly, we may also apply an additional cancellation charge to cover any difference in value.
  • This applies to in-stock, pre-order, and special-order items equally.
  • If you're unable to provide the ID required for compliance checks, your order will be cancelled, and the same charges will apply.

This policy isn’t about being strict - it’s in place to protect the availability of stock for clients making genuine purchases.

Returns and Refunds

We want you to be happy with your purchase. If there’s a problem with your item, we’ll always do our best to put it right.

  • Let us know within 48 hours of receiving your order if there’s an issue. Please include clear photos and a brief explanation to help us assess the issue quickly.
  • If the product doesn’t meet the standard we described, we’ll arrange a replacement or refund.
  • Items must be returned in the same condition they were sent.
  • If upon receipt of the product, it meets our stated standard, we're unable to refund any postage.

Items We Cannot Accept Back

Because of the nature of our products and how they are priced, we’re unable to accept returns for the following unless they are physically damaged and no longer meet the stated precious metal content:

  • Bullion Coins
  • Brilliant Uncirculated Coins
  • Proof Coins
  • Pre-Owned Coins
  • Coins with milk spots

These products are classified as commodities, meaning they’re directly linked to live market prices. Allowing returns on such items would create unfair advantages and risk the integrity of our pricing model.

About Mint Packaging

Where products are supplied in official mint packaging (such as presentation boxes or outer wrappers), please be aware we cannot guarantee the condition of the packaging itself. These are considered decorative.

Our primary focus is always the condition and authenticity of the coin or bar itself.

Protecting The Market and Our Customers

We’ve set up these policies to help maintain fair access to stock, avoid misuse of market movement, and protect our genuine buyers. Our goal is to keep pricing competitive and stock available - especially when demand is high.

If you have any questions, or you’re unsure about anything in this policy, we’re always here to help. Please contact us at info@atkinsonsbullion.com or call 0121 355 0620.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Milk spots are a natural result of the minting process, especially on silver coins. They don’t affect the metal’s purity or value, and are not considered a fault. For that reason, we cannot accept returns based on milk spotting alone.

  • Bullion is classed as a commodity, meaning its value is directly linked to the global precious metals market. Prices can change by the minute based on supply, demand, and market conditions.

When you place an order, the price is fixed at that moment, based on the live market rate. Because of this, bullion is treated more like a financial investment than a typical retail product.

For this reason, bullion is exempt from the usual consumer cancellation rights under Regulation 13 of the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000, which recognises that products affected by market fluctuations cannot be returned in the same way.

  • We ask that any issues are reported within 48 hours of receiving your order so we can investigate fairly. If you contact us after this timeframe, we may not be able to offer a return or refund. However, we’ll always do our best to advise or assist wherever possible.

  • If a refund is approved, it will typically be processed within 3–5 working days of the item being returned and inspected. We always aim to resolve returns as quickly and smoothly as possible.

  • If your item arrives and appears damaged, please let us know within 24 to 48 hours and send clear photos. We’ll review the case and either replace the item or issue a refund if it doesn’t meet our quality standards. All parcels are packed under camera to support fair resolution.

  • Precious metals like bullion are priced in real time, and their value changes with the market. Because of this, accepting returns opens the door to speculative buying — where customers could attempt to return items when prices drop. To protect fair pricing and genuine customers, we don’t accept returns for bullion or pre-owned items unless they are physically damaged.

  • Yes, but the same cancellation policy applies to pre-orders as it does to in-stock items. This includes the 2.5% cancellation fee and any market-related loss. This helps us secure your item and manage fair stock levels for all clients.
