The 2024 Sovereign coin design
After the historic design celebrating the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III, the 2024 Sovereign returns to the uncrowned portrait of His Majesty, designed by British sculptor Martin Jennings.
The reverse of the 2024 coin features the iconic George and the Dragon reverse, designed by Benedetto Pistrucci; the same design that featured on the first modern sovereign in 1817.
Weight and tax status
Like all gold Sovereigns, each 2024 UK Full Sovereign Gold Coin weighs 7.98 grams of 22 carat gold. Each 2024 UK Half Sovereign Gold Coin weighs 3.99g of 22 carat gold.
UK Sovereign gold coins are legal tender within the UK, and are therefore exempt from Capital Gains Tax, making them a popular choice every year.
A history of minting excellence
Gold Sovereign Coins are Britain's most famous coins, the first of which was minted in 1489 at the behest of King Henry VII. Regarded as The Royal Mint’s flagship coin, the Sovereign has been associated with the British monarchy for hundreds of years and is one of the most trusted bullion coins in the world. A triumph of numismatic art, many consider The Sovereign the ‘chief coin of the world’.
As an official partner of The Royal Mint, each brand new Sovereign coin comes direct to us from The Royal Mint in Llantrisant, South Wales.
