The Pre-Owned 1989 UK Proof Sovereign Three Gold Coin Set was issued to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the first gold sovereign.
The set will consist of the half-sovereign, sovereign and double sovereign, each featuring a new design which was struck to commemorate the anniversary. The reverse design is a Shield of the Royal Arms upon a double rose with the inscription 'Anniversary of the Gold Sovereign 1489-1989'.
The obverse of the coins shows Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II seated as at her coronation.

This was a significant year for the UK's coinage as the gold Sovereign celebrated its 500th anniversary.
