The Pre-Owned 1989 UK Proof Double Sovereign Gold Coin was struck to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the gold sovereign coin.
The obverse of the coin features Queen Elizabeth II seated as at her Coronation, within the inscription 'ELIZABETH II DEI GRA REG FID DEF', which may be translated as 'Elizabeth II - by grace of god, Queen, defender of the faith'.
The reverse of the coin bears the Shield of the Royal Arms and the Royal Crown superimposed upon a double rose and the inscription 'Anniversary of the Gold Sovereign 1489-1989'.
