The coin's reverse features a stylised version of the majestic Black Bull of Clarence holding the shield of arms. The year-date and ‘Black Bull of Clarence’ also feature.

At the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, ten heraldic beasts stood guard. The plaster models were created for the occasion, symbolising the various strands of royal ancestry brought together in a young woman about to be crowned queen.
