The Australian Lunar 1oz Silver Coins celebrates the Chinese lunar calendar. Inspired by the traditions of the ancient Chinese calendar, the Silver coins feature the 12 animals central to the calendar.
The coin's obverse depicts Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the year-date, weight, fineness and the monetary denomination.

Produced by the Perth Mint, the Australian Silver Lunar Series 1 began in 1999. Coins were struck from 999.0 Fine Silver.
Following the success of Series 1, the Perth Mint’s lunar theme was secured for another 12 years with the introduction of the Australian Silver Lunar Series 2. Series 2 began in 2008 and ran until 2019. Coins in Series 2 were struck from 999.0 Fine Silver until the switch was made to 999.9 Fine Silver in 2017. Series 3 began in 2019 and continues through each lunar year to current date.
